End of an Era
Author: elendril :: Posted: Thu Sep 13, 2007 1:59 pm
Yes, LA is dead. Our “era” really ended a long time ago, back when we lost the majority of our pre-TBC core to the garbage that was early expansion raiding. The LA that has been limping through Black Temple and Mt. Hjyal for the past few months is not the same LA that had some of the earliest worldwide kills on bosses from Ragnaros through Kel’thuzad. We still had some of the same fire in the early days of the expansion, with another world top 10 kill of Gruul, but the miserable tedium and weak rewards of raiding led to the loss of many of our best players early on. We tried to rebuild with recruitment, but we’ve really been playing catch up since the earliest days of SSC, and we’ve constantly found ourselves struggling to raid.

The real nail in the coffin, though, was that no one cared anymore. It’s a lot harder to get motivated when killing a boss is the difference between 264th and 265th in the world than it is between 10th and 11th. We’ve been limping along out of sheer stubbornness for months now, but our recent inability to fill raids and further waves of attrition finally pushed me and the other officers to our limits. It simply wasn’t worth the frustration of coming home each night wondering if we’d have enough people or the right classes to raid, and even if we did if those people who did show up would care enough to pay attention and play well, or if we’d spent a night wiping on things we’d done dozens of times before. We could recruit to fill those spots, but that wouldn’t solve the fundamental problem of motivation, and in an era of raiding when you have to count on every single person to be able to do their job and handle whatever twists the specific encounter throws at them, I’d rather do my sanity a favor and not roll the dice again.

So that’s it. LA – as a raiding guild, at least – is dead. I know many people are planning on sticking around the server, though some are transferring, and at least a few are quitting. Thank you to everyone who was a part of LA over the years – it was a hell of a ride. Thanks to everyone who supported us, and thanks to everyone who hated us – you all made playing this game so much more fun. Sorry to everyone who wanted to see the guild stay together, especially to those who recently transferred and thought they were becoming a part of something that would last.

And no, you can’t have the guild bank’s stuff.
